Understanding the Impact of H.R. 1 on For-Purpose Sector

The recent passage of H.R. 1 or the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" will impact charities and philanthropies across the country--including those who support the nonprofit sector in Iowa. This includes a new "1% floor" (i.e., contributing at least 1% of taxable income) for charitable contributions from corporations to be tax deductible and a similar 0.5% floor on charitable contributions from individuals with itemized deductions.  Also new is a permanent deduction for individuals who do not itemize capped at $1,000 beginning in 2026. To help you learn more, we're sharing this resource from the Council on Foundations with additional information and insights.
