Each year, Independent Sector and the Do Good Institute at the University of Maryland calculate the value of volunteer time in all 50 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. In April, they announced that the estimate for the value of a volunteer hour was $34.79 in 2024, a 3.9 percent increase from 2023. Recent executive orders have prompted many in our sector to seek guidance on how these changes may affect nonprofit operations and community outcomes. We believe that both policymakers and the public are gaining a deeper understanding of this essential partnership—a partnership critical to building healthy, vibrant communities.
