This session will be held at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, 909 Robert D. Ray Dr., Des Moines.

As a nonprofit leader, cultural competency is critical not only in your daily work but also as you seek to advance your organization’s strategic mission in our community. And there is no better way to approach this important work than through the lens of individual experiences. Join us, for this interactive session designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of cultural competency through the exploration of their own racial experiences. Alongside fellow leaders, participants will have an opportunity for interactive reflection as well as deeper discussions that will lead to implementable steps to promote organizational awareness, action and accountability around racial equity.

We are pleased to welcome Abena Sankofa Imhotep to facilitate this session with the nonprofit community. She is the director of Sankofa Literary & Empowerment Group, which creates spaces for lifelong learning while centering the scholarship and literature of Black authors. A TEDx speaker and published writer, Abena facilitates conversations on equity and awareness for organizations across the region.
