Community Learning Series: Advancing Racial Equity in Linn County
Event Category

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is hosting a virtual Community Learning Series event to share and discuss local data collected about racial disparities in Linn County. The event is free and open to the public.

The Community Foundation exists to improve the quality of life in Linn County. The communities we serve are increasingly composed of people of color who have long faced significantly more barriers to improving their quality of life than their White peers. At the local, state, and national level, racial disparities persist in a wide range of categories—everything from healthcare to school discipline. Research shows these disparities result from inequitable practices and policies that lead to divergent outcomes. Our community has a better chance of trending toward a healthy, thriving community if we avoid leaving portions of it behind. A focus on racial equity will ensure that as our demographics shift, we will be able support healthy people, communities, organizations, and economies.

Four Community Foundation Board members will join us as we share and discuss recent local data about changing community demographics and disparities. Join us to learn and discover how our community can improve these challenges in the future. The Community Learning Series events provide an opportunity for community members to come together to learn, grow, and collaborate. The events are free and open to the public.
