Event Category

Data points are everywhere in our daily lives and the same is true for nonprofit organizations. What is the data telling us? What do we still need to know? What are we counting?  What are we missing?  Why do we care about one data point over another? If you are curious about how to use data to make even better decisions for your nonprofit organization, join us for Using Data to Deliver for Your Organization: An Interactive Workshop Series.

The Community Foundation will partner with United Way of Central Iowa to offer this four-part series which will be a deep dive into how nonprofit organizations can leverage their data to make even better decisions for the missions they serve.  Experts from the nonprofit organization, Des Moines Data for Good, will lead this series of interactive workshops covering four focus areas and according to the schedule below. All sessions meet from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please note that the final session will be an in-person meeting.

January 12 (Virtual): Why is data important? Why business analytics?  Learn why organizations are saying that data is their most important asset.

January 19 (Virtual): What data foundation do I need to get started? Learn the building blocks of how to start leveraging data in your organization.

January 26 (Virtual): Techniques for analyzing and presenting your data. Learn ways to slice your data into meaningful groups and present your findings in a way that resonates with your audience.

February 2 (In-Person at United Way of Central Iowa): Applying analytics to my nonprofit data. Learn in hands-on exercises to apply concepts and strategies to your own organizational data.

Participants in this series will walk away with the knowledge of why and how to start leveraging their data to make better decisions. From the board room to operational staff, the first two sessions will set the foundation to begin collecting data, understand different types of analytics, learn the impact data can have on organizations. The third and fourth sessions are for those interested in putting knowledge into practice. Participants will learn Excel fundamentals in order to start answering simple analytics questions themselves.
