Event Category

Admission
$25 plus $3.52 fee per person

Each year, the dsmHack committee solicits applications from nonprofit organizations in the Greater Des Moines area and beyond who need help overcoming a technology problem. Project submissions vary from digitizing paper processes, streamlining donor databases, to helping an organization organize a web presence.

While nonprofits prepare their dream projects, volunteers sign up to commit a weekend of their time to help these organizations. They go in sight unseen, with no idea what they’ll be working on or who they’ll be helping—which is part of the fun for many participants!

There is a wealth of technology talent in the Des Moines area and amazing nonprofits that continue to help Central Iowa win awards as one of the country's best places to live. In an effort to team technical resources with the nonprofits of this community, we've created this event to bring the best of both worlds together. During the hackathon, these two groups will come together to build and implement tools to make the area's nonprofits operate more effectively so they can continue to focus on doing good. Through this event, we will learn a significant amount about the needs of local organizations and how we can work together to make this community stronger!
