Grant Writing USA is offering a two-day grant writing workshop on August 21-22 at the Des Moines Police Training Academy, 433 East Army Post Road, Des Moines. The workshop meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. For information on tuition, enrollment, and other details, click here.

Applications are being accepted for the 2018 Levitt AMP Grant Awards supported by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation. The grant supports free outdoor concerts in small to mid-sized towns and cities as a means to revitalize public spaces. A webinar on August 23 will provide additional details. Registration is open for the third annual Southeast Iowa Nonprofit Summit. The Summit takes place on Thursday, September 21 at the Bridge View Center, 102 Church St., Ottumwa from 8 a.m. to 4 p .m. The event is free but registration is recommended as space is limited. Telephone 641-455-5260 with questions.

The Iowa Nonprofit Summit planning team and Volunteer Iowa have announced the keynote presenters for the Iowa Nonprofit Summit in October: Rick Lynch, a Seattle-based management consultant and president of Lynch Associates, and Michael McCann, Lifestyles Director for Friendship Senior Options. Summit registration is now open. Updates are available on the Summit Facebook page.

Training and Other Opportunities

The University of Iowa’s Center for Higher Education makes furnished apartments available at its Internship Village for college students who have internships in Des Moines. Lease arrangements are flexible. The center, which is the former AIB College of Business, offers amenities such as a fitness center, computer lab, and student lounge. It is close to downtown, recreational areas, and other points of interest. Information and photos of accommodations are online. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Linn County Johnson County is offering Nonprofit Management Academy workshops. Sessions are offered through November and can lead to a certificate in nonprofit management. All classes meet at the Linn County Extension Office, 383 Collins Rd., Cedar Rapids. Reports and Studies

Independent Sector (IS) has released a report called Tax Policy and Charitable Giving. IS research conducted by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy examines how tax proposals and the expansion of the charitable deduction would affect charitable giving.
